AH locks up now with patch 4

I just installed the patch 4 then tried to connect to AH. I get as far as right after the login screen where it should show my connection choices. However instead of the connection options, there is only a black square with the "cancel" button. The PC locks up at that point and I have to reboot. When it comes back up Windows XP runs a disk scan. After that everything is ok until I try to log into AH again. AH worked fine before installing the patch. Any ideas? Should I uninstall AH and install from scratch?

Theres a few things id try first:

- Check your firewall/AV - sometimes a patch changes the exe in a way that the FW/AV dont recognise it any more and you need to reallow AH.

- if the above didnt help, try turning Firewall and AntiVirus completely off

- check your VIDEO SETTINGS on first login screen, make sure they didnt get changed


- defrag the HDD the game is on (I dont really think that is really the cause. but it certainly cant hurt)





A note for reinstall: back up your Settings, Skins and Ahiiterr folders. Also Sounds/Sights if you use custom ones and dont forget films and screenshots.

After uninstall, you need to remove the HTC folder manually, as the uninstall wizard will keep the settings. Then reinstall from scratch. Launch game with default to see if that works... if yes, copy your custom stuff back in.

That's precisely how one of my machines behaves that has Norton firewall and anti-virus installed. Once I get the blacked out connection screen you speak of, I go back to desktop using either the Windows key or cntrl-alt-del, shift-cntrl-esc. Norton firewall will have a dialogue box open asking me what I want to do about letting AHII access the internet. Once I tell it to always allow this action I go back into AH and everything proceeds normally.

It was the firewall. For some reason if I didn't hit alt+tab right away, the PC would lock up. So as soon as I selected "Online" from AH, I hit alt-tab and was able to tell the firewall to allow AH through.

Just remeber, each time we patch the game, you will need to re-allow Aces High II back through the firewall.  Just consider it part of the upgrade process.

Just FYI, this is nothing we have any control over.
