Up the ranges in EW
« on: December 04, 2006, 06:11:12 PM »
Just a thought. with A/C like the 109E, SpitI and SpitV unable to carry DTs, the long distances between bases are a real hindrance. Tried to cover a V-base attack in a SpitV earlier today- ran out of gas after one engagement, and that was with throttling back and lowering RPMs while not in combat. Full tank of gas and an eventual ditch in enemy territory to fire about 30 rounds and get 1 kill.

Either that or give us the 109E7 and allow the SpitV to carry a small slipper tank.

Buff ranges are adequate, but with some of the current maps you run through half your gas just getting to alt and moving to CAP area. Pretty sad.

I know its historical, but its a serious pain in the butt for gameplay.
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Good Point.

I'm still new and confused about what you just mentioned about historical.  It seems this game tries to be historical but only half way.  This is an example.

Im sure I have not read something.  And I dont know why the planes we have are for a reason.  So any enlightenment  would be welcome.

Translation:  Lower the FuelBurnMultiplyer in EW

Had to do that, I clicked this thread thinking it might be related to icon range displays.

Is it, or is it still 2.0? If so, that's half the historical range.

yah when you look at your e6b you see the burn mult
1.00 is historical
but i like it i think that the burn mult should be 1.00 in all the arenas

I think not - because the distances in all arenas are not historical too.
And at a fuel burn rate of 1.0 the tactical differences between short range fighters (like La7, spit16) and long ranged ones (like P51) would vanish. There would be no incentive to up a heavy but long ranged plane, when a La7 could get you deep into enemy territory too.

Thats why I specified EW, since most of the fighters in there are hampered similarly. Most of the buffs have range all across the map as is, won't make too much difference for them.

Treize, I'm no expert on spits but I have a reproduction of the Spit V manual and it shows it was able to carry a drop tank or a 500lb bomb, but it may only apply to the Spit Vc and I think our Spit V is a Vb.

Also my experience in the game is a little different from yours.
the 109F has a drop tank, I usually load up 75% and drop tank, wep to altitude, throttle back and cruise and only drop the tank when I engage enemys or it runs dry.  E6B shows 35 minutes with that setup, and thats at 100% throttle
I up a SpitV with 100% fuel.  Wep on takeoff, climb to about 10k, then throttle back and cruise and I can fly and cap an area for about 15-20 minutes if I wanted to.  I usually run out of ammo before I run out of fuel.  Ive gotten my tanks down to about 4 minutes and with throttle/rpm management stretch it out to make it back 20 miles

I agree the burn mult should be lowered to 1-1.25 in EW and 1.5 in MW, depending on the map...

Also I thought this was about icon range.
