What Microphone to buy
« on: December 08, 2006, 12:56:59 PM »
Hello All,

My wife just asked me what I want for Christmas;) . I need a microphone for this game. There are some limitations. I play usually around 10pm est when my wife and kids are asleep but I need to be able to hear what's going on in my house. If one of the kids is crying I need to hear so my wife can get her rest and keep her sanity. So maybe a headset w/ 1 ear phone?  Please let me know your suggestions!

Cheers,

As mentioned, Plantronics is a good bet...as well as Logitech. Head over to any box store, including Wal-Mart and you should be able to find one for less than $30. Look for one with a volume adjustment and just be sure it's suited for a computer vs a Walkman-iPod-MP3 music device.

Altec Lansing for $20 bucks @ BestBuy / Circuit City.

LIGHTER is better!

If you're like most AHr's you will find yourself sitting in front of that monitor for hours on end. Think about it. One sortie can last 45 minutes on average. two will take you easily over an hour. A heavy or high compression (squeezer) headset will give you headaches after a while.

You might also want to determine if you just gotta have complete quiet as you game or do you need to keep one ear tooned to household noises (kiddies, wife ack, etc). If so, then think about getting one with only one earphone.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all of you! I Think I should shop for this present with my wife. :)

One question: Are the headphones just for Vox or do you also get the in game sound over the headphones?

Thanks

I usually play AH with headset loosely around my neck (i got a ~ 30 USD Plantronics) and sounds over surround 5.1 :).

If its late night and "husband ack" needs his sleep ill switch to sounds over headset as well (but quality is lower).
