Hurricane porked?
« on: December 17, 2006, 12:54:16 AM »
I haven't flown very much lately so maybe I'm just forgetting but the Hurricane IIC is a flying brick when you lose any control surface.  Granted it was all I flew all night so I have nothing to compare it to.  I seem to remember the IIC being at least somewhat agile when it lost an aileron.

The plane also seems to be effected on all control surfaces, for example when you lose an aileron it seems to take twice and long to loop.  Not to mention the fact that damn near everything seems to out turn it these days.

The plane flies the way it always has until it get's damaged.  They updated the flight model for damage a while back and that significantly changed the hurri's maneuvering when hurt.  A lost aileron must be compensated by using all the rudder you have and staying somewhat fast, there's a big hit at very slow speeds.

That would be it then, I'm hardly ever fast in the hurri.  Other then that, I always dump rudder when I roll.

I have a friend whos grandfather was a mechanic on Hurricanes. According to him, they can take a LOT of damage, even able to RTB with 1/3 of their wing gone. I dont think a single lost aileron should put you entirely out of the fight, it should simply kill your roll, and, as mentioned, require a bit more rudder in some maneuvers...
