Help!
« on: December 11, 2006, 06:43:12 AM »
I really screwed the pooch here...I havnt slept tonight, because I have been up writing a self evaluation essay, which will be my final grade in one of my courses...(15 pages and its gone)....

Okay....I started writing the essay at the computer lab in school...Didn't finish, so I attach it in an e-mail and send it to my address...Earlier tonight I open the e-mail, and "open" the document (not download)....I never hit save as once it was opened...Only hit "save"....low and behold I can't find it on my computer?  Where in the world could it possibly be?  Does anyone know any way of trying 2 recover this?  If im not making sense im sorry, ive been up 24 fluff'nm hours

if it was a word document you could go to the search function and type in .doc (or whatever the extension would be...)

view> arrange icons by> modified, look at the last files displayed.

try that maybe...

start menu>search>all files and folders> type in file type as in .doc or .mook> hit search button>

when results come up go to the view menu at top of window.  select list.  right click on open space within results window go to arrange icons by> modified.

you can also use the search function and type in the name of the document, but make sure that you get the title exactly right.

hope this is helpful.

If you're using Outlook the default path is:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK25

I think the OLK25 is version specific.  One way to find your path is using Outlook would be to repeat what you did initially (open the document) and goto File>Save As.  This will bring you to the directory that Outlook wants to save to...the directory that it saves things when you hit Save.

Can try sending somethign else to yourself and then hit "save as" and see where it wants to save it to
then look in that file for the file you want

Ive done that a few times where I saved seomthing and forgot or didnt pay attention to where it was saved to
