Dive Bomber Needed?
« on: April 06, 2000, 12:08:00 PM »
Anticipating the release of 1.02, there seems to be several strategic factors in AH that will change.

The addition of the ground vehicles will add a whole new realm to the game, all which sounds great, no doubt. How they will be implemented I’m not sure, but all shall be good indeed.

One thing that will not change though by mobile units is the need for the one particular aircraft. One that AH could have used since very early in the Beta. It may have eliminated a WHOLE LOTA laser ack arguing. Matter a fact, tanks will make it needed more than ever.

Of course it’s the Stuka!

Seriously! Hear me out on this one:

Everyone here values realism in the arena.  The Germans absolutely developed bombers that were made to strike pin-point targets. Early in the war it made sense to them to hit strategic targets with accurate, even if small bomb loads, and the Stuka was perfect for the early blitzkriegs.

Of course it turned out it was a flawed strategy, as they needed a heavy bomber later that was heavily armed, had range, with fuel and a bomb load to attack large targets such as airfields and production. Still, it indeed existed at early played a big part in the war. For realism AND better game-play, the Stuka is just the ticket for AH now.

Are there better dive bombers? Yup, but for a good famous German bomber to be added, the Stuka would make sense.

Think about it-

1. Aren’t the ack in AH just about a perfect a target for those mean looking bastards? Small pin-point targets that can be taken out by a few well placed bombs, just what the Germans were doing in the war.

2.  Won’t the new  tanks only add more fun for dive bombers? (There is still a place for the B26 and the B17 with it’s F18 FLIR laser pod guided Norton site, as in the HDQ’s and such.) The Stuka was a armor killer.

3. Having a AH plane MADE for dive bombing (besides Fatty’s F4U) would really increase strategy. Unlike a F4U that drops it’s bomb and then can decimate every intercepting aircraft within 900 yards,  the Stuka are awful slow and poorly defended. You would have to bring 109’s for your support. It would take coordination and teamwork, and big nads to fly that thing into a defended base.

4. Would not loading one of your friends to run the back guns and tearing down vertical on a tank or ack battery with the war siren wailing, beer cans flying out the canopy, whooping on RW be great? That’d be fun, and a nice break from the steady slow drone of a B17 at 30K pickle barreling the ack.

(I can almost imagine a scene from animal house with the guys chanting, “Stuka, Stuka, Stuka!”  :0)  )

5. And man, would my neighbors love some late night dive bombing sirens coming out of the Cambridge Soundworks! Your wives will love ya!

6. There’s a lot of other uses for the Stuka as well as AH keeps growing. If they implement the vehicles moving over terrain attacking other bases, would I love to blow out a bridge out and stop a advance, something a airforce would allocate a dive bomber for, not a raid of B17’s. It certainly will play out in the Historical Arena that’s coming.

Of course I know there is a a/c wish list a mile long from everyone, I just thought the Stuka was worth mentioning because everyone makes comments on the ack and game realism, each of which the Stuka addresses nicely. (All the while adding a German bomber and a popular one too.)

Finally, I will completely retract this request, and any other for new planes if we can only get player manned 88’s and Big –Thick- Shrapnel Slashing- Ack Bursts for those blasted high bombers! Whoooomph! –burp-, “yeeeehaaa!”

No matter how bad they get slaughtered-

No matter how many die enroute to target-

This one is a must. Anything that fought in the war from the beginning to the end has a place.

" Anything that fought in the war from the beginning to the end has a place. "

(hang envisions a bloated Winston Churchill in a Hurricane, chompin a Cigar and admonishing the Yanks for commin to the party late...)

Scary.

Ju-87 is a must in my opinion. Preferable 2 variants. One a pure bomber the other the G model with the big guns.
