Hard lock-up in AH

You got it Propnut.

Power suppy limitations and also overclocked instabilities.  I've seen several instances here of AH being tougher on these systems than any other game or APP we have.  If you are seeing lockups and are over-clocked, the first thing to try is to put it back to stock speed.  The second thing to try is to upgrade your power supply, especially if you have a GeForce card in combination with an Athlon.

HT must have done a great job of optimization to have AH be the toughest thing you can do with your 'puter!

I have a TNT2 Ultra that can get pretty hot as well.  (ON an Athlon TBird)  I purchased a PCI slot cooler (Slotfan), which looks like a squirrel cage fan that fits in a card slot.  I think this would be a good investment for GeForce owners (those things run hot).  I'd probably put it in the space occupied by PCI slot 1 (besides, if you have an AGP video card you usually won't be using this particular slot).

They are about $20 US.

HI all,
i have still BIG problems with AH lockups.
i managed to handle the "back to desktop" crash with pyros help.
but i have still, always hardware lockups.
not when a special grafic affect appears,
not due to overheating. i don't know why!
system:
athlon700
Asus K7m
erazor x2 (geforce DDR)
bigtower with 300W power supply
enought cooling fans...

any tips?

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts you don't have enough power to run that.

Both Athlons and the geforce suck up a LOT of power.  If you have a full tower with a bunch of stuff in it and a bunch of fans, you may be running low on power.  I'd either try a high-quality 300W PS, or find a 400 or something bigger.

I'm assuming your Athlon is not overclocked.

HABICHT I'm having the same problem you are... and it is annoying enough I'm going to start trying to get it fixed. Locked up 30 minutes into the snapshot yesterday! Argh!

Specs here:
Athlon 800
SD-11 M-Board  =(
GeForce 2 DDR (ASUS 7700 with ASUS latest drivers)
SB-Live
300 Watt Deer powersupply

I guess I'll try switching to the latest nvidia detonator drivers, but I thinking that isn't the problem. Not heat either because I can monitor that.
