Trying to figure out how he is going to give 3 guys back 5 $1 bills the bellboy decides he will give each guy back $1 and keep $2 for himself.
If the bellboy gave each guy back a $1 that would mean each guy is basically spending $9 for the room correct??
Soooo....if 9x3=27 and the bellboy kept $2 .....and 27+2=29

It's deception. The $2 in the bellboy's pocket should be subtracted from the $27, not added to it. In short, the dollar you are looking for is actually in the hotel's cash register.
$27 - $2 = $25 (what was paid to the hotel) or
$25 + $2 + $3 = $30.
