Need Win 2K Video Help
« on: November 27, 2001, 12:27:00 AM »
...I just recently upgraded from Win98 to
Win 2K and now when I try to setup Aces High
it no longer has a video device listed as
an option...So I end up with a white screen
that has some sort of wierd looking wire ring
binder across the top of the screen...

DirectX is installed and the video card shows
up fine under properties...

I'm running a Celeron 600 in an Abit BM6
motherboard w/ 512k RAM.  It worked like a
champ under Win98.  The video card is a
NVIDIA GeForce2 Pro with 64 meg RAM on board.
The sound card is a plain jane Soundblaster
32 bit card.

I get a light blue screen when launching
the AH terrain editor, but at least it asks
me for the display device.  The AH game does
not even appear to recognize that the video
card exists.

I installed SimCity 3000 to make sure the
video card was visible to other games and
had no issues with the install or launch.

I'm thinking about upgrading to Win XP
tonight if I can get verification that the
game will run under that OS...

The game does run under XP. I verified this last week. You will want to go to the Nvidia site and get the latest driver though. This may also solve the problem you have under 2k.

BTW, if you are running Zonealarm or some other program like that you may want to check the settings or shut it down and try to connect again.

Best of luck!!  :)

Ducati you still didn't say which display driver you installed for your graphics card.

Which directx version?

I'm running DirectX 8.0 and using the standard video driver that was packaged with the video card.

I suspect that may be part of my problem.  I have downloaded DirectX 8.1 and the latest version of my video drivers for Win 2K.  I
will be installing them tonight to make sure I am up to spec and current enough for Win 2K.

I think the base video drivers may be too old to play well with DirectX 8.0 and Win 2K.

Put on DirectX 8.1, and put on the 7.58 Detonators for Win2k.  The later ones will be MUCH more likely to cause you problems.  Trust me, I've been down this road a lot lately.
 http://dangerousdog.com/downloads/dets/index.htm

Install the 7.58 version Detonators for 2k for anything from a TnT2 to a GeForce 2 Ultra.  The later model drivers may be slightly faster, but they are not nearly as stable as the 7.58's.

Thanks alot.

I got my video problems cleaned up.

Now I am having issues getting my old stick
(Thrustmaster Mark II FCS) to calibrate and
work correctly under Windows 2000.

I'd rather not have to replace a perfectly
good flight stick.

Has anyone out there had any luck using the
old Mark II FCS under Windows 2000?
