My condolences on the loss of your son.

You know sir, as other have pointed out, the shot does capture a lot of emotion.

I'm willing to bet there is a competent aviation artist that could put that shot in oil on a good-sized canvas for you and smooth things up a bit. Could add lighting highlites on the planes, make the coastline, jungle and clouds a bit more natural, and perhaps add a sunbeam or two through the clouds, perhaps one lighting your son's plane.

He said he was following his son.

Actually having a painting done of Corky Smith's CorkyJr P38 and his wingman by Aviation Artist Wade Meyers.

http://wademeyersart.tripod.com/id65.html

It's the Pacific 80th Headhunters listed.

Was kinda a gift  from my son & daughter to me after the accident.

In some ways they're both flying wing for me now.

Should be nice. He's one of the artists I was thinking of.

Best regards

I would get in touch with this guy:

His email is  homepage@skyraider3d.com

He'd do it in CG and with the backstory, would probally do a fantastic job.

If you're planning on using that screenshot for the painting, I recommend going back in the track and using maximum zoom (minimum field of vision) to take a new screenshot.  In other words, zoom in all the way, then move the camera out so that the aircraft are the same apparent distance.

Here are two pictures to demonstrate.  Both were taken from the same angle at the same time, but the upper picture is at normal zoom and camera distance.  The lower picture is at maximum zoom and the camera is farther away.  The lower picture, of course, is the way the human eye would see it.
