Video card help
« on: December 27, 2006, 08:16:07 PM »
I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop with the sis m760gx video chipset. Currently offline with all items set for highest frame rates I get about 1-4 fr/sec. Is there something I am not doing to get better frame rates?

SiS don't make gaming cards. AH doesn't officially "run" with SiS cards.

Reduce screen resolution to 800x600. Turn off ALL goodies (FSAA etc) Set texture size to 128. Turn off all skins. Disable all effects. Reduce sliders 100% as far as they'll go. Then when you're in the game hit Shift F3 (short vis range). It will look like chit, but it may run.

If that doesn't help there's nothing you can do, it's a hardware deficiency.

Be sure to disable hardware vertex processing, in the game "Video Settings", as well.  The SiS video chips may claim to be able to do it, but it is severely broken.

I forgot, is there a way to upgrade a video card in a laptop?

Check with the manufacturer.  They are the only ones who would really be able answer this accurately.  Unfortunately, laptops are very proprietary.  ANy upgrades to any part of the hardware will almost always have to be funneled through them.
