Computer help
« on: December 31, 2006, 03:32:46 PM »
Starting about a week ago or so, my computer turns off at random within a few minutes of being on IE or Firefox.  The fan on the motherboard is making a fairly loud whirring noise when the case is off so I'm thinking that might need to be replaced.  If I'm not on the internet my computer will run all day, this is the only site that won't shut it down (usually).

Is it overheating or what?

Sounds like a virus/bad spyware infestation.

Suggest you download Hijack This , run it and post the log here.

Go into the bios and check your temps. If they are pretty far up there, you may be having a heat problem

Going online doesn't cause the computer to overheat.  If it shuts down when you connect to the internet, then it's a virus.

Symantec

Great place to get cleaned up.
