Memory woes...skuzzy can you field this one?
« on: March 24, 2001, 04:23:00 PM »
I recently downloaded 3dmark2001 and ran the test.

To my dismay it says the my memory frequency is @ 66mhz!

I dont know why it is or what to do about it.
there is no setting in my bios to change or even check the memory frequency and AFAIK my mainboard doese not have any jumpers associated with mem greq either.

so i have 2 questions.

1: is it possable that 3Dmark2001 is giveing me a bogus report on my memory speed?

2: assuming its not, what can i do to put the mem speed back up the where its supposed to be? any programs? utilities?

MOBO is FIC SD-11

Well, it is not beyond the realm of possibilites that 3DMark2001 is not reporting the fsb speed correctly.

That said, if your system BIOS has any settings for the FSB (front side bus) speed, check there.

If your BIOS does not have any settings like this, then your motherboard may have jumpers for selecting the FSB speed.  You would have to check your motherboard manual for this one.

The only bios options related to memory are the options such as

"configure SDRAM times by speed Enable/Disable"

If disable there are options like SDRAM PH limit and the like.

Ive been poking around my manual but have seen no mention of anything Jumper wise relating to memory but I will look again.

Can you think of any other programs that could check the memory speed?

FSB speed is the same thing as memory frequency?

I know of a few FSB tweaking utils, ill check them out aswell I guess.

What MB do you have.

Most with the Via chipset can run the FSB at 100 and memory at 66. Intel chipset cant do this.

Dog out..

I still havent figured it out yet, im trying to find another program that will test it for me, im kind of wary of 3dmarks's result.

I have the AMI Bios, not AWARD bios btw.

Ill check the FIC board out, and i do have a program that checks your memory type snd speed. A link was posted on the bb for it a while ago.

Ill look for it on my system and post a link here for it. Its called CTSPD and it a windows program.

Dude, you said in the Hardware and Software thread that Sandra reported it was running 100 Mhrz.  3DMark is just reporting it wrong.

Don't sweat it, it's working fine at 100 Mhrz.

It is running at 100mhz..

2nd page CAS timing..

This is a great little program, i had some odd lockups in Internet Explorer and some memory lockups coming out of 1 other game i have on my system. Though ive never had any problems with AH. Anyway ran CTSPD and it reported errors in 1 of my 128 meg chips. Pulled the chip and now i have had no lockup problems.

Never would have figured it out, has something to do with compatablity with the Intel CPU i have.

Dog out.....
