It's not a hoax it's a real product. It's very extreme product though.
If I recall right the unit cost around $1600 + workmanship required to build the in-wall chassis for it. That combined to the fact that music contains little to no information below 20hz makes it a very small production item. It's for extremist audiophiles that use vinyl players and perhaps hometheater users who want to take effects into the extreme.
