Well, I got tired of the laptop, and broke down, and bought a mobo, with a nvidia 6600. Im putting together a not-so-top-of-line system, but one that meets my expectations for me. The mobo is a ASUS P5B, which should do what i want into the future, and the video should be more then adaquate. The question now comes down to CPU.
I have been reading acticle after article about DUAL CORE vs HYPERTHREADING. BTW, Im sticking with Intel here, motherboard is already purchased. So basically Im looking at like $109 dollars for a P-D 915 Preseler chip ( because the 900 series run cooler then the 800 price difference 10-12 dollars ) over a hyperthreading model, which would save me about $50 on an obsolete P4 about 2.8-3.2 GHz. Which Im gonna overcloak anyway. So really Im not sure which way to go here.
The main thing is 1. DOES AH ][ Support hyperthreading, or dual core. Will I actually benifit from this. Other then this game, my laptop has done exactly what I needed it to do. Unfortuately gaming hasnt been up to par with what Im looking for. I also Im being very thrifty, namely because the changes in the cpu market are in constant flux, and the dual core Im really going to buy isnt $100. Yet. So I may be behind the curve, but I'll wait. I figure this system will last me quite some time. My old P3 is still running linux like a champ.
Cheers M8's
PS I already have the memory so Im good there. I got a good deal on some Corsair, free was kewl. Its only 566. But hey, did I mention free.
