De PooPoo Magnum - AH dumps to desktop

Woe is me...

Man, I feel like I walked in some kind of "Sh*t Storm" with no raincoat.  You know, when it feels like someone is shooting 20mm cow turds at you and you can't run and hide.    

Here is my story.  (And I'm sticking to it)

I had joystick spiking problems, on the Y axis.  I thought it was time for a new joystick set-up anyway so I invested in a new CH line-up.  Guess what!    The new joystick is spiking also.

I re-hook pu my trusty old TM outfit.  "Argh!", Windows won't let me calibrate my joystick.  Even though every thing is fine in DOS, via the TMS Scope program.  

Well, 7 hours later and after bugging every tech support line I can dream up.  My computor is torn to hell, but at least I have my joystick working in Windows again.

Hopefully it will continued to do so after I re-install my sound card.  I have a ethernet card, a PCI sound card and a TM ACM game card.  I am starting to think that I have power problems with all 3 cards in at once. Any clues on this one?

Now, to show my level of "Tweaked Out".  Sometime in that 7 hour time period I decided I needed to optimize my AH directory.  I deleted AH, deciding to re-install the entire game on an empty drive.  

All goes smoothly until I try to run the game.  The first time I ran AH I adjusted my video preferences.  So good so far, but after doing this I got dumped to the desktop.

I attempted to restart AH once again.  I got a white screen in the top left 65% of my monitor.  Then the entire screen fills with white.  Then I got dumped back to the desktop.  No error messages, just a polite dump back to the desktop.  

This is now the status of my aparatus.  A momentary flash of white and I get dumped out.

No AH and I am one "Un-happy Camper".  No flying the P-38 for me.  Time to fall on my sword or maybe can someone help me?   Pretty Please.

HEHE...  Dolt Dolt Dolt!  I feel a little silly, plus I wasted an entire day on this.

Well for the record, here is what I discovered:  No sound card --> No AcesHigh

I moved my sound card to another PCI slot and reloaded the drivers for it.  My joystick is still spiking, but that is another problem to solve.

As a secondary effect of moving my sound card.  I can now Alt-Tab to the desktop and Alt-Tab back to AH.  In the past an Alt-Tab back to AH from the desktop just booted me from the game.  Go Figure...

Now a question about my joystick for you experienced Thrustmaster users out there.  My set-up is a FLCS/TQS.

I get alot of spiking on the Y axis of my joystick (elevator control).  This spiking only occurs when the stick is "Awake".  If my stick is "Asleep" I have no spiking and the controls are very smooth.

• Awake = Keyboard macros enabled.  The stick functions as analog stick and a keyboard for macro use.
• Asleep = Keyboard macros disabled.  The stick functions only as an analog stick.

Would this simply be the need for a pot replacement?

I've replaced my pots in both my CH sticks, the newer one I had to replace them after a week.

Some things you probably know:
Calibrate the stick in the DOS utility that centers the joystick.

Calibrate the stick with the WINCENTER utility afterwards.

Download the macro file.

Calibrate the stick within AH.

Make sure you have a good game card, all my spiking problems went south went I picked one up.
