Skinning Guide or FAQ ???
« on: January 08, 2007, 02:48:29 PM »
Hey all

Do you remeber the "My Little Pony" skin. I think eskimo made it.

Well  I have not been able to get it to work since one of the updates a while back. I have tried doenloading it again and such but it just dont work...

Well My four year old daughter loved the pony skin and keeps asking to fly it off line.

I dont want anyone to make it but I would like a guide to creating skins.

I thought that there was one somewhere. but after a looking I have not found it.

I am no artist and I am not tryng to create a historical skin... I just need the basics.

Could someone point me to the guide if it exists...

If I can make a new MLP skin for the Pony it would make my baby girl very happy... And if I can learn the basics I can make one for each or her ponies.... Ok maybe not all (have you seen how many there are:) )

Thanks
Mussie & GG

Skinning Guide or FAQ ???

Well the very very basic run-down is that you need to save the default skin, edit it, and then export/saveas an 8-bit bitmap. How you get the desired results you want is where everything changes.

As an aside the old skins no longer work on the new models, as they have been re-mapped (different parts of the bitmap are used on different parts of the plane now, so using the old skin things show up all messed up).

Try the skinner homepage.

And this thread is also helpful, even though im not sure how current it still is.

This link I found in Uniteds sig:

I hope this helps you somewhat. Ive been looking into skinning myself, but I just dont have the time to do it :).

One thing i think you need to watch out for is the new naming convention for the skins folder, with the underline separating plane type and the number. Like its now p51d_6 instead of p51d6.
21 is only half the truth.
