No joystick control
« on: January 14, 2007, 12:31:55 AM »
I just downloaded this sim and think I have it configured correctly.

I checked game controllers in windows and my Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D is there and working.

I get into Aces High II and go to Controls > Map Controllers.  Everything is mapped correctly and working.  I also Calibrate  the joystick.

When I click on Start Flight in the offline practice area I am in my plane on the runway.
I can control things like start engine, raise and lower flaps and throttle up using the keyboard.  But I have no control of the plane using the joystick.  It is just dead.  I have tried both Auto takeoff on and off.
I have also created an account.

What am I missing here?

In the Map Controller window, select the X axis and then check the ADVANCED box. A popup window will open where you can scale your JS input. Now move the roll axis (ie left and right) of your stick and check the blue box with the two lines... are they moving?

(Same for any other analog input axis)

Thank you for the reply Schatzi.
Yes,  the lines move when I go to the advanced window.  This is what confuses me.  The joystick appears to be working right up to the point I am in a plane.

Hofy,

do you have the correct Mode mapped? You need BOTH Mode1 set up for plane control, and Mode2 for Vehicles (there are some buttons I have differing for the two modes, but the analog axis are all mapped the same).

Also make sure that the box "Autoselect Mode at start of flight" is checked and that when you launch a plane you get the "Control Mode 1 selected" message in the text buffer.

Ill be online in the Training Arena after 8pm GMT (thats 3pm EST), look for me there if you still have trouble.

Schatzi,
Both modes are mapped and working.  Auto Select Mode at start of flight is checked.  Control Mode 1 message is in orange text at the lower left of screen.
See you online.

I am going to try loading AH on my laptop first.  Not the best graphics but I will be able to test the joystick.

As slow as the sim is on my laptop, the joystick works just fine.
Installed and set up the same as my desktop.

OK.

Go to your game install on your desktop PC (by default, its C:\Programs\HTC\Aces High II) and go into the Settings folder. Find the files with a jsm extension and delete them. That will cause all your Joystick settings (including the mapping!) to be set back to default. Sometimes, the jsm file will get corrupted. (Norton and McAffee AntiVirus being common culprits). Then restart AH (it will create new files automatically) and just check if the stick is working (without changing mapping on anything - by default, the X and Y axis should be mapped). Check if it works then.

Before you do that, make sure that AH is allowed application in AV and Firewall!

PS: Ill come online in a few minutes.

Thanks for letting me know!

Glad I could help. :)

As soon as you got everything set and working, make a backup of your settings folder! Thats a nice thing to have if you ever run into this kind of trouble again, or have to reinstall... can save a lot of headaches :).
