Vsync is on, but I'm still getting 50+ fps past my refresh rate at times.

Again, is 50% CPU usage normal while running AHII?

My CPU usage with AH running is 100%. Dual cores may be different-mine is an AMD 3200+. I run XP sp2 on an HP. No grafics/vidio tools or controler support(X45 does fine without it).

I have 16 processes when I view task maneger while game is up on-line:

PackethSvs.exe-needed to run my dielup(not sure why)
taskmgr.exe-needed to view list and will be off when in game
explorer.exe
wwm.exe-my $10 connection
Svchost.exe-4 of these and are critical- I killed them 1 at a time once
aceshigh.exe-vary neccisary and at 99% CPU usage
lsass.exe
Services.exe
Winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
System
Ststem Idle Proccess

Only 2 programs. My connection and AH2.

FsAutostart would be used if I did other things with this PC, but I don't. So it stays in this config at all times. Before I got a multi-media PC I used FsAutostart to stop and restart everything but what I need to run the game. HPs are loaded with crap for every possible printer/scanner/camera/moniter/and on and on.

if you want to stop thing from loading up at start up use Hijackthis
Yes there are 4 Svchost.exe, but if you see Scvhost.exe this is a very noctorious virus/spyware

But for AH to run at 100% is very unusual, i have a AMD 3300+ and it usually never goes above 35% (althou this is with AH minimised)

as for USranger, i am clueless about your situation, i never thought that something like that could happen, and keep happening

last time i seen a dual core (laptop) using 50% constantly it crashed and burned  :-\

If you think that is strange.
I had something runin' in the background that made my fps drop to 5-1
All of a sudden my plane would go into warp mode, like the games internal clock had been jacked up.

I could take off be into the air and at 15k in under 3-4 seconds.
Odd thing is EVERYONE else flew correctly,no one else was warp speeding like i was.

Funky, fun..but no thanks.

From Skuzzy's "Hints and Tips" sticky:
Quote
Lastly, the number of and type of background processes is a contributing factor to poor performance. Open the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del), select the "Processes" tab. In the lower left corner is the total number. It should be around 19 to 21 for a reasonably clean Windows XP/2000 system. A fairly clean Vista system will have around 35 processes.

Quote
Right next to the total count is the CPU usage percentage. It should be bouncing like a heartbeat between 0 and 1 (maybe 2 on occasion) percent. If there is any deviation to this, then something is amiss. You can also start the game, minimize it, then check the game's CPU usage. It should be at 99 to 100%. Anything less, then something is amiss.

But I don't know if this is correct with duel cores.

I ver much doubt it, i have a 3300+ 2.2 Ghz and when i Alt Ctrl Del, AH usually never goes above 50% (even when there are things happening)

If you look back I had alot of problems with this type of warping specific to AH. Mine was do to a driver conflict. It was some type of "memory manager" driver that somehow conflicted with the game over the internet. Gave me a EKG like graph.

If I were you I'd "Fbomb" the drive and start over. Load a clean copy of XP and just the 84.66 drivers. Not a single other thing. Then load hijack this and get a default list...exclude them all so you have a blank screen.

Then load AH....

Your other option is reviewing your dll list. You have something loading that is creating a conflict with your video drivers....only other option is you have bad memory or a bad PS thats spiking V to your memory...

If you have not found a solution yet; if you have "Cool n Quiet" enabled...

TURN IT OFF.

When I have CnQ turned on in Aces High, it goes laggy to the extreme.  Watch the network monitor, the variance oscillates between the ceiling and the floor.

I have a dual core processor; with CnQ turned on my game only runs with the MS p-state patch installed (with the additional AMD cpu patch).  When I turn off CnQ things work properly.

After the latest patch, however, the games goes into the "spinning" clipboard state every so often.  My solution to that is to set affinity to cpu1.

One of these days I am going to right a launcher for AH that sets affinity automatically.

Where would I find this Cool n Quiet to see if it's on or off?

you can also turn it off in windows be making sure the power state is not in "minimal power".  Set it to Home/Desktop.

You can make sure CnQ is turned off by downloading the AMD CpuClock applet.  It shows the current CPU clock.
