Terrible framerate
« on: February 01, 2007, 03:06:41 PM »
Hi there,

I been playing again for the past month or so..again, and I am experiencing some wild framerates. I have read the stickys, done everything they said...and yet, I am getting framerates between 8-12. Yes, I am on DialUp..No choice whatsover there...and believe me..I hate it. I  usually have framerates around 30-40....not bad..not good...hardly..but always playable.

Now, earlier today...I had framerates in the 40's....like I said..playable, yet...now..two hours later...framerates below 10. Any suggestions other than the usual?

dialup's a drag, but I also have to play on it and get high 50's (less on deck). As for all the possible reasons, I'm less qualified than many here to comment on that (Ya prolly need to post what kind cpu, memory, and vid card ya have)

I live in the sticks, get steady 180 ms ping or so--it costs me a few kills, prolly a few more deaths than otherwise, but otherwise fine.  Depends on your modem and whom you're dialing into

I had dial up for years and would ping a steady 130ms to the MA . You have to have a decent modem and a good local isp. Get rid of the crappy winmodems that rob cpu cycles and get a hardware modem . Check your phone lines !!! make sure there isnt any line noise . You can use hyper terminal to check your modems stats for the last call you made by looking up the AT commands for the modem chipset you have. It will give you many important stats that will help you attain a better ping . It took me a year to get my pings to 130 and sometimes below , and testing about 20 isp's . Here is the modem i had .

drugello , read this page and follow the link's in blue to lear how to use hyperterminal , it will tell you whats going on. There may also be a modem string that will help by disabling V.90 or v.92 making your connection more stable .

If everyone with a dialup connection did the proper tweaking, it would stop alot of the issues between them and the broadband guys. Goood luck and let me know if i can assist in anyway, its alot of work and can be frustrating at times but worth it in the end .

You may have to work on your internal phone lines , dont use any spliters , disable call waiting , check connection at the phone Company's network interface outside your house ect ect ect .  Later ...38
