I'm watching the show right now, and 1/3rd of the way through it doesn't seem too unusual.  Simon is actually being fairly reasonable but then again there is still another hour to go in the show for him to lose it and start acting like his usual idol-persona.

I felt sorry for Jewel... She seems to be taking it seriously (maybe due to having her own show?) but she has to balance what she *really* wants to say with the fact that she is a public figure herself and she does have a nice-girl image to protect.  On occasion I could tell she really wanted to tell the contestants that they suck and had a terrible attitude, but she seemed to stick with stuff like "that wasn't good". She didn't sugar coat it, but it looked like she did hold back a bit.

Hmmm.

The navy guy actually got real advice from Randy and Jewel.  That's unusual.  Last year I don't recall any contestants getting any kind of productive advice at the mass-screening level, at least not any that made the show.

Maybe this year's show will be a bit different than the bickering and snide remarks last year?

Still watching...

Hey, it won't be "American Idol" until we get a drunk Paula, a condescending Simon and a "I played bass and sang backup for Journey, yo!" comment from Randy.

Actually, I need to add to the comment by Randy, "Yo yo, what's up dog?  Yeah I liked your choice for a song.  You know, I worked with XXXXXXX producing their CD and and single so, yeah, good job dog!"

Mustain,

I'm watching on Armed Forces Network... They delay broadcast most shows overseas.

Almost done with the show, and so far only one girl "Sarah" (sang somewhere over the rainbow) seems to have a *really* good voice.

Tough show.  Not very many guys with any hint of a great voice so far.  A couple of decent voices that probably just need a good voice coach, especially with a couple of the younger contestants, but only that girl Sarah really seems to have it together already.

I can't believe I'm missing UFC to watch Idol... Damn AFN schedulers can't get it right :)

I loved it when Randy said something like, "Minneapolis?  More like Minnesuckapolis!"

I agree, we may have seen this year's winner last night.
