I Grew Up a-Dreamin'...

...of bein' a cowboy,
and lovin' the cowboy ways.
Pursuin' the life of my high-ridin' heroes
I burned up my childhood days.

I learned all the rules of the modern day drifter,
don't you hold on to nothin' too long.
Just take what ya need from the ladies and leave them,
were the words of a sad country song.

My heroes have always been cowboys,
and they still are it seems,
Sadly in search of...and one step in back of themselves,
and their slow movin' dreams.

Best thing that ole Willie ever recorded.  :D   It always helps me unwind from a stressful day.

And puts me in mind of Roy and Gabbie, Gene Autry and Hugh O'Brian and Hoss and Little Joe and a dozen other heroes from my youth.

The tv western has certain fallen from favor since those days hasn't it.  In may opinion modern tv isn't nearly as good.

Opinions?

I love the song. This is the first time I've ever seen the words written though.

I was'nt much a a Willie Nelson fan till I noticed my late father liked him. When I found that out I started to listen to him more. I listen to him now because I started to like his songs and I always think of my dad.

One of my personal favs by Willie:

If you had not have fallen
Then I would not have found you
Angel flying too close to the ground
And I patched up your broken wing
And hung around a while
Tried to keep your spirits up
While you were feelin' down
I knew someday that you would fly away
For love's the greatest healer to be found
So leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground
Fly on, fly on past the speed of sound
I'd rather see you up
Than see you down
Leave me if you need to
I will still remember
Angel flying too close to the ground

The TV western was shark jumped by Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.
