Meanwhile...
Yeah I'm playing the the monster campain game vs AI right now.
May 42
Japanese are having a hard time keeping Rabaul open and operating. I managed to fortify & build Henderson early and can now fly my 17s out of it. I caught a few cruisers south of Rabaul with my carrier force, that was fun. And one of the big BBs is in port, I cant hurt it much yet but it it's unable to sail anywhere.
Wake never fell. AI isn't interested in it.
Dutch East Indies are falling very slowly. Palembang just went down, so they have oil now, but I 'm still holding onto west halves of Sumatra and Java.
Manilla and Clark air field are still hanging on, though it'll fall in the month. MacArthur will die there
I think I'll have the Japanese advance halted by mid June. But it'll be a long while before I can really mount any offensive operations this early. My 4 BBs that were hit at Pearl are in SF and will be repaired in 2 months.
KB is somewhere in the Dutch East Indies. British subs have wreaked havoc on Japanese supply in the south China Seas. I'm trying to use US subs to blockade Japan but they still suck this early.
In Burma the Flying Tigers have helped stop the advance, my top allied ace is with them and has 12 kills.
All of China is pretty much calm, no japanese advances.
The game IS a monster, turns are 1 day game time and every ship and air squadron is represented. It'll be years before I'm done with this, but I love the game. Developed by Gary Grigsby, Matrix is the publisher. If you were ever into the big boxed tabletop wargames from Avalon Hill & SSI of the 70s & 80s you may like this.
