Can't Log into Online Games
« on: January 22, 2007, 12:30:22 AM »
Ok, I worked on this for a few hours last night and all day today  but can't seem to play the game online. I'm a PC tech so I can normally fix this type of thing and have tried everything I can find in the forums.

I can play the offline game without any problems but whenever I attempt to join an online game, the client locks up on me. Once I crashed to desktop and but the rest of the time the tower view will start to load but the windows, desk, and microphone are the only things rendered but they all have a solid grey mapping. The Clipboard shows up but the map part is solid grey and my cursor won't work. I end up having to end the process through the task manager.

Now for the steps I've already tried... I have deleted the cache folder after every crash, restarted my system to make sure the game didn't screw up DirectX, downgraded my nVidia drivers from 9x.xx to 84.66, uninstalled the program, removed orphaned keys out of the registry, deleted files left from uninstall, re-downloaded a new client from the mirror site and reinstalled. I've tried running the program with every combination of terrains as well as with and without the hi-res texture pack.

I have run the game with every combination of video settings and even had to delete the video8.cfg file because at one point the game would load but I couldn't use my cursor. I have disabled my firewalls, both Nod32 and Windows Firewall, as well as connected straight into my modem and bypassed my router to ensure there weren't any port issues.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Yeah, after I read that roscoroo's post I searched the boards for a dual core patch... I thought you meant one for AH. I was pretty sure I had installed both of those files but I checked my driver details and realized that after my last reformat I used an old version. I downloaded them and am in the middle of installing them remotely from my office. I'll check to see if it fixes the problem after I get off work tonight. Thanks for the help guys!
