can some one tell me where you can get older drivers? i updated to the nvidia 12.42 driver but im getting worse result with it. another thing i uninstalled the older driver.

Try www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com They have a driver section with just about all detonators. I'd try the 7.78s if the 12.41s aren't working.

I recommend the 7.78 WHQL drivers. I've had the best luck with those, and they have fixed some issues for other folks I've helped.

BTW, sometimes it's tough to "downgrade" your drivers. It's best to first change it to "Standard VGA" and reboot. Then put in the 7.78's and reboot again. Check your driver versions before you do (write 'em down) so you can be sure you have the correct versions when you are done.

Many thanks to all who contributed! I've been out of the loop on AH for a while due to real life and hardware problems and the new version wouldn't run on my AMD 900/GeForce MX system. 7.78 solved it.

Oh. One more thing. Upgrading from many .01s back is an amazing experience. Unbe-friggin-lievable!

What i usually do is change the adapter to generic MS one then go to start/find and search for NV*.*. Then it gives a list of files in the windows/systems folder. I just delete then. Then install the new driver. Course this is why i couldnt go back to the old driver in the first place.

The very FIRST THING you should do is remove any display driver software listed in the "Add/remove software" applet in control panel. Diamond, for instance, installs it's "In Control Tools", Creative has their "Blaster Control", etc. This should all be uninstalled first. Then reboot...

Your system will then come up virtually the same as it was, but now it's running without the control software, however, the drivers are still active. Before you change to the VGA driver, go into the display properties in device manager and get the list of all the files that the driver uses... you'll use this list later to completely remove the files manually.
Click on the button"Driver File Details". There you will find a list of all the files that make up your video driver.
Highlight each one of them by clicking with your mouse and note the information below the dialog window; specifically, the "Provider" listing. Write down on a piece of paper the name and path of each of the files that are listed as having your present video card manufacturer as the provider. If no provider is listed, it says "Unknown", or it is listed as being from Microsoft, you do not need to record it.

Then change to the VGA driver,.. and reboot again. When you come back up, it will be in uglier than sin 16color 640x480 mode. Now if you want to remove all traces of the previous driver, go hunt the files down and delete them. Windows has no mechanism to delete drivers automatically, nor to remove registry entries, so if you really want them to disappear, you must do it manually. Don't forget abou the .inf file in C:\Windows\Inf\Other either...

Once you've done all this, then power down and instally your new card. Windows will find it on the way back up and give you opportunity to install the drivers and control software.
