Wireless music from PC
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:32:12 PM »
just got this thing:

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2653,CONTENTID=10855

from http://www.woot.com today...

this is so freaking cool!!!! playing my whole MP3 library through my home stereo, set it up plug-n-play in less than 5 minutes.

dude this is the coolest thing, it even has a remote, so in the other room I can skip tracks, change volume, whatever.

gotta tell you, if you ever were thinking about a way to do this, this thing is sweet. it doesn't even mess with my wireless internet.

just had to recommend it, it's that cool!

Mustaine I have been looking for solution to this in the past weeks.  Desktop in one room, home stereo in the living room...how to play it seamlessly without long cords.

I used this for a while until I went to a full on media player.  You can get them a lot cheaper on eBay.

Now if they'd just invent a wireless station that played Divx codecs with AC3 sound I'd be happy!

This is the one I use.  I does everything you're asking.  The only problem is that the company went out of business.

Prismiq media player

You can still get them on eBay  for next to nothing.  I have less than $60 invested in mine for the player and keyboard.  I'm not running mine wireless though.  Apparently you just slide a laptop wi fi card in the back and you're golden.  The only problem is that there is nolonger support.

That video thing is pretty cool.  I noticed that some include a keyboard and some don't.

What does the keyboard allow you to do besides (obviously) type to fill in text fields or write an email on your TV?  Is the keyboard needed for anything special that a normal wireless keyboard couldn't do?

I don't know if a regular IR keyboard will work with it.  The keyboard helps to fill in search fields, quickly type in file names and is absolutely necesary to browse the web.  If you're really good with text messaging the regular remote would be OK, but I couldn't do it without the keyboard.  On top of playing video and sound files from your PC it will also play internet radio over your home stereo.  The beauty about this thing is that it's Linux based so if you know about coad you can go in and tweak it.  I'm perfectly happy with it the way it is but I will eventually just go to a media PC for my home theater.

Another nice thing about the Prismiq is that you can have multiple units throughout you house drawing files from multiple PCs on your network.  I would eventually like to have one in every bedroom.  Imagine having access to your entire music and video collection from every room in your house...

Dunno bout the AC3, I'm not an audiophile. But I have the MG-35 (ethernet only version of the MG-350) networked up and with digital to my 5.1 system and it gives proper 5.1 sound on the divx movie collection I have.

That's cool but it's twice the price and I don't see it's wireless.  I am slightly inebriated toninte so I might be wrowng.
