"Aces High has encountered a problem....."
« on: January 22, 2007, 11:21:32 AM »
Since the last update, I have been having some video problems (nvidia geforce 6600 GT). Problem was purple colored triangles flashing all over the place when looking towards the sun(mostly) sometimes on the terrain while just flying, not necessarily looking twrds the sun.
I updated my drivers......(I did see the posts about how wacked the newerer drivers for these card are)....and now I am getting a message that says the program has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. Once this happens.....I can not load Aces High...I always get the same message and an offer to send error report to Microsoft.

I unistalled. Re-downloaded the current update of AH. Flew for awhile and then same thing.....encountered a problem, shuts down, and now won't even work when I do a reinstall from the installer I saved.
I am still playing with things trying to get it to work, but would appreciate any input. THANKS!

So did you revert to known good drivers?

Have you tried changing your video card settings? You can do so by deleting "video8.cfg" in Aces High's "settings" directory.

Well, I re-installed the game. I uninstalled the bad AH, restarted the computer, then installed from the installer and restarted computer again, and so far no problems. I am still getting the purple triangles flashing all over when I look towards the sun.
Thinking back to both times this happened, the last time it did, I was filming. I am not sure if I was filming the first time, but there is a good chance. So far I have not filmed anything, just flown and everything seems normal. I guess time will tell if it fries again.

Check your temperatures Ductape!

Such artifacts can be a sign of heat and/or the card going out.

Those artifacts are definately heat or power related.  Or you have a bad memory chip on the video card.

Thanks Skuzzy. You know your shizznitt.
I checked my video card temp when I started getting the artifacts aggain, it was elevated, but I didn't think it was too high so continued flying the sortie I was on. I soon got the message that AH encountered a problem and needed to shut down. I checked my temp when AH quit and it was very high.
This am I got up early, busted out the dust busting equipment and cleaned out the inside of my box. Dusty dusty dusty. Now that it is clean again, I checked my temps.....AT LEAST 10-15 degrees cooler just sitting here.
I will reload the program, and try flying again later on this am and see what happens.

I do think you hit the nail on the head though. THANKS:aok
