Initialization Failure

Why does my machine return the error:
Initialization failed with -5
MainSN_FAILED -1

I have tried setting up the video config with all options but to no avail.  Is it because I have a 2d/3d combo card (Voodoo Banshee?)

I'm runnign a p2 400, 128MB and 16 MB Banshee

I don't recognize this particular error, but here are a few ideas to try:

What version of Direct X are you running?  You need at least 6.1 and I'd use 7a for best performance.

Under video configuration try picking the "primary display driver" option.

Do you have a joystick plugged in?  If so, make sure its status is listed as OK under game controllers in the control panel.

I'm sure when Pyro or Hitech read your message they can tell you exactly what the message means, so if the above don't solve your problem, don't worry.

Hmmmm..... Vodoo card.

My first bet is that he is trying to run AH in 32bit color mode.

Vodoo cards will only do 16bit color mode.

Delete your video.cfg file, and when you start the game next time, choose primary display driver and 16 bit color mode.

Tango Man,

That error is signifying a problem in the sound initialization.  What sound card do you have?
