The U.S. military used (tested) a "sonic deterrence" weapon in Somalia on convoys. It was meant to keep the Somalis at bay without permanently injuring them but had a dial setting that could go from mild discomfort to really dead. I suppose it didn't work out too well, I never heard anything more about it other than the little minute & a half blurb on the news at the time.
On a side note...
It's funny what you hear when you pay attention & have the news on 24/7. Back when Reagan was in office I remember hearing a news report on CNN that Cuban backed Nicaraguan troops had invaded Mexico by using commercial airliners (Red Dawn?) & their numbers were reported to be in the 200,000 range. The reporters were holding their hands up to their ears & acting like it was really breaking in their ear at that moment. They went dead air in the middle of it & when they came back a minute or two later. They didn't even mention it, no retraction, no whoops the cameras caught us horsing around...nothing; they just carried on with other reports like nothing had happened. I have wondered what that nonsense was about for 20+ years.
