Icons disappearing

Well I don't know if this is supposed to be some kind of weird feature but I couldn't find anything by searching.

Occasionally icons will disappear (i.e. green friendly names or red enemy icons) in the middle of combat. I don't mean when they go farther than 6k from me, but even when they are close in. For example just 10 minutes ago over tank town, my wingman had a pony on his 6 and I was looking right at them but couldn't see any icons even though they were only about 2.5k out. On the same sortie I had something on me and my wingman couldn't see my icon or the bogey I was dragging (again only about 2-3k from each other).

It's not that big of a deal and seems to usually be pretty brief but if a squaddie needs something cleared from his tail ASAP it can be a hindrance.

I have had similar experiences with bombers between 2.5k and 2.5k. The icon will simply disappear. I don't know if it has something to do with the prop blocking it or something odd, but I noticed it happening before.

Infrequently, but enough to take note.

I know from experience that icons often disappear if the target is close to the ground - perhaps Aces High models the natural difficulty you would have spotting something against ground clutter. Were your wingman and his assailant lower than you?

Maybe by a little, but when I had a guy on me and my wingman couldn't see my icon I was at least 1.5k higher and diving towards him.

I have seen bombers repeatedly lose their icons, and occasionally fighters as well, while at alt, not at treetop level or while i'm flying upside down or anything odd.

Normally when I see it, it's bombers at 15k or higher. Usually they're alone in the sky, or there's very few other icons.

I wonder if it's a driver issue, or a code issue?

I also get disappearing fire trails, if more than 1 is visible (i.e. only 1 drone in a bomber formation will show fire, even if all 3 are on fire). Then again, the icon thing is so infrequent.

I've seen it a few times with bombers.

The icon will partly dissappear.  I think it occurs near clouds.

I've seen the icon slowly fade out from top to bottom when near clouds.

I thought it was a feature.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

Well every time I saw it there wasn't clouds obscuring it, it wasn't fading half in half out, it just toggled off completely.
