hi,

a new flash for my AWARD BIOS put - for some unknown reason - the memory speed at 100mhz in stead of the 133 it was running at.
and behold, my system is much more stable when running AH !!
haven't had a crash at 100 mhz yet ...

hope this helps some of you ...

Just out of curiosity, are you running pc133 ram or higher, and are you running pretested ram or just generic stuff??

A number of people (me included) reported that running at 133 caused them lock-ups after one of the patches and ever since. Backing the bus speed down to 124 cleared up the lock-ups for quite a few people.

Just out of curiosity, are you running pc133 ram or higher,

i now have 2 sticks of 256mb each, both are pc133 ... (running at 100 now thru the BIOS)

and are you running pretested ram or just generic stuff??

fwiw ; both came with a 10yr guarantee ... one has Samsung ic's, other has M.Tec (with a White Lake label).
before that i had 2 sticks of pc133 128mb, both Infineon (Fujitsu Siemens) and the same problems ...

the real problems started with patch 3 ; AH became virtually unplayable for me ... i cancelled my account 2 weeks ago (but who knows ; i've had no problems flying offline - both regular and DX8beta - after going to 100mhz)

That's odd, I've run all the systems I've built with pc133 at 133 Mhz (or faster on my personal system (140 Mhz)). I'm not lying: My system has NEVER totally locked up. Not once.

My guess is that in your case you have gotten bad ram or were trying to mix double and single sided ram chips in the same system. Either that or your system is getting very hot inside. Going to 100 Mhz is a good troubleshooting measure though and is only a minor performance hit overall.

When someone above mentioned that 124 Mhz thing (it was Ripsnort's computer) you need to remember that he was running pc100 at 133 Mhz. He was just lucky he didn't have even more problems. Going to 124 Mhz just drove the ram a little easier. If he put pc133 in there he would have been able to run at 133 Mhz. (I can't remember if he actually ever did though.)
