New Late War Arena: TT and Furball
« on: January 25, 2007, 12:44:39 PM »
I wish there was a new late war arena created.  We could call it Tank Town and Furball Arena.

It would have one uncapturable and undamageable airbase per country in an island type setting (at each corner).

It would have vehicle spawns which met in the center at a town, like with the TT island map.

The air bases would be at 10,000 feet, steeply dropping off towards the center of the island, like with the furball island map.

No captures, no porking.  Only get and get got playing.  You could use your perks there, eny enabled, etc.

What do you think?

I am all against it. Do not further split up the player base.

So you declare your way to have "fun" in AH is the only true and valid one? Everyone not playing your way is wasting something? And because you have no fun that way, nobody should? Maybe itīs that "resources" thing all the squeaky generals are yelling about all the time...

Just so long as we leave the center of the TT island alone right?

My appologies if that quotes you out of context and misses your point.

This topic has caused me a good deal of aggravation.

This post is another stab at a solution for the 'Winning TT' post I took your quote from.  In that post I suggest making TT center uncapturable.

In this post I suggest creating a new map for the TT and furball folks to go to if thats the gameplay they want.

The strategy 'win the map folks' recondnise the flaw in the TT map, without it's capture under the 50/50, and now 40/40, it was 'virtually' impossible and now 'nearly' impossible respectively.

Whatever, it's all pie in the sky discussion without HTC taking an active part in it.

"Furball only" arena was suggested a long, long, long time ago as a possible solution to the "furballer vs. toolshedder" nonsense that permeated these BBs.

Ironically, the most succinct and difinitive answer given at the time as to why it was "never going to happen" is Hitech's wish to "not split the community."

We now have 4 MAs . . . go figure.

BTW -- the only reason it is causing you headaches is your inability to grasp that taking a tanktown base, unless done as the last base to win the reset, is seen as griefing.  There is simply no reason to do it.  The proof of that is when someone goes into the arena and finds tanktown island owned by one side.  If you are "finding" it owned by one side -- well, a reset hasn't occurred, has it?  Therefore, there are other bases that can / must be taken for a reset, yes?  So, why were those bases not taken first?

Whether intentional griefing or not, doesn't matter -- the effect is the same.  People only see effects, not intentions.  Understand that, problem and aggravation solved.:aok

Taking bases is fun. I'm not that good in a fighter, but I can flatten hangers with the best of them. It's how the game is won. I'll admit that some of the most skilled pilots are furballers, but you can't win if you don't take bases. The game would quickly become dull if clear achievable objectives are not set.

While many agree with you, to the dedicated furballers, the thrill of shooting other people down is what makes the game fun.  Their "achievable objective" is to shoot someone else down, and they count each kill as a "win" - ergo, taking bases is meaningless to them.

There is room for all types of gameplay in AH.  As long as you understand and accept that not everyone is going to agree with your take on what is "fun", and don't go out of your way to ruin the fun of others for no reason, we can all get along together.
