The "energy" overshoot....
« on: January 30, 2007, 10:55:17 AM »
I cut out this clip from this mornings "dawn patrol" as a pretty good example of awhat I call an "energy defense"....i'm sure widewing or one of the others could give it a more proper label. I'm bounced by a higher con who can be quite formidable at times. I really don't want to give him a fight profile he can win (vs trikky that would be vertical slashing obliques) so I draw him into a fight that favors the pony. With speeds in the 175/225 range I can use my flaps to ride him out and eventually force him out the other end. basically this is a decending rolling scissors but not one that converts to an endgame that the more unstable yak could win. By keeping the speed in the right "zone" trikkys more or less along for the ride. As you can tell I was flying with squaddies so the in the end the sobs wouldnt even let me finish in piece:)....{24 second shot clock is always in play if you fly with us} :D

Actually trikky hung in and made it a great fight and earned a well deserved from us all. This initial segment however is an excellent "guns defense" that if your patient will yield you decisive advantage when you have a portion of the flight envelope you can exploit....know your "sweetspot" and make the other guy fight in it....and not his own.

Fun with Trikky
