A Keyboard Map Command I Don't Know
« on: January 26, 2007, 04:11:03 PM »
Two actually:

Set trim command by typing a .<----dot

And center rudder, s, command.

The 2nd doesn't seem to do anything.  E.g. turning a buff or fighter using j or l and releasing has the same result as hitting "s."  That is the rudder doesn't snap into center at once.

The first, I've not figured out its usefulness.

Englighten the benighted please.

All the best,

hap

Pressing the period key (or dot) works to set the trim to your current control input. Not much good if you are hauling back on the stick as all it can do is apply full up trim.

A bit like combat trim but without the constant change.

I find if I am diving and need forward stick to maintain the dive, a tap on the period will often allow me to release forward stick pressure as it is now trimmed to the dive.

watch the trim indicators move after you do it. I suppose it should be quicker than manually trimming but it never seems quite such a fine trim adjustment that a manual set will give.

I thought S was a centre set for rudder for none rudder pedal users when using A and D for left and right rudder.  You have just reminded me I can probably unmap the rudder keys and use them for something I do need!(like direction keys for a bailed pilot!)

J and L are just rudder trims and will stay where you put them unless you switch on some auto trim. S has nothing to do with these keys so far as I am aware.

Hap,

The period key for this new trim function is not mapped by default! Youll have to set it in Map Keys first.

And Blagard is right. When you are using any analog input for rudder (twisty, rocker or pedals) this input "overrides" the keyboard command.
21 is only half the truth.

Schatzi,

"Set Trim" shows up under options > keyboard mapping.  I don't recollect setting it.

For use with the IRTracker peripheral, I believe?  Unless it has to do with setting up to look and track your currently selected target, which can also be done in the game.

Set Trim reads your joystick/rudder input at the time you pressed it, and applies trim in the same direction as your stick input.  This allows you to center up your stick as trim is applied.
