Sound causes pausing

1.08 is running great on my PC but my son's pauses frequently when firing the guns. Suspect it may be the USB speakers, anyone else having this trouble?

WinME
Athlon 1.1GHz
512SDRAM
GeForce2 32MB GTS
Aiwa USB Speakers
All latest drivers and DirectX 8.1

Try decreasing sound acceleration

Control Panel
Multimedia
Advanced properties
Performance Tab
Move slider left and test
repeat until problem gone
