Joystick / Windows Problem
« on: March 24, 2000, 01:50:00 AM »
Here is one for the techno's:

I can't seem to get my joystick working in windows.  It seems to work fine in DOS using TMScope, but Windows just hoses the output.

I have a seperate game card, but the result is the same as using the sound card.

I been trying, now I am crying!

P3-500 / 100mhz mb  128mb
Diamond TnT2 Ultra   353 ver drivers
Aureal Vortex 2500
CH Fighterstick - Pro Throttle - Pro Rudder Peddles

Man I miss playing AH, I was ready to re-format my HD a bit ago and re-load Windows.

Any help and I would be really grateful.

I had CH F-16 Combatstick and I always have problems whit Directx5, 6 or 7. So I use vjoyd.vxd file from Directx3.0. If you have and old CD whit this file, rename vjoyd.vxd in windows/system and copy the Dx3.0a vjoyd.vxd to there.

Sorry my english.

Mino, see SaintAw's thread. In your device manager, under game controllers what resources is your stick set for? I'll bet it's 200-207. It needs to be 201.

 Yikes
No idea. As long as your soundcard port is disabled and your gamecard is good you should be ok

Mino what did you do to make it stop working. did you remove game controller or add new sound card or anyhting like that. If you did remove it from the system properties and reboot computer let it find it again and reinstall the drivers for it. You may have to many drivers running in windows. A reload of windows may help also. Let me knwo what youve done may have some more ideas.

Concur with Indian.  Is there anything that was changed on your system when it stopped working properly?

Basically, I installed the software on the CH Products CD.  That was when my trouble began, no other changes were made.

Good News is I got it to work.  I don't really have any idea how I did it.  I just kept messing with it and the darn thing started working.

2 days later...

I am starting to think that Win98 likes things in order, wrong order and it hoses you good.

Bads News:

This is a brand new Joystick.  Seems that the Quality Control at CH Products is a little lacking.

This ordeal has me so mad.  I have $700 worth of Joysticks, Throttles and Rudders laying around and None of it works worth beans!  I feel like tossing the whole "Sha-Bang" down the garbage disposal just to hear the noise it will make.

Can anyone recommend a HOTAS set-up that you don't have to mess with for 2 weeks to find out that it is crap.

Some kind of joystick set-up that works as advertised when you take it out of the box?  I will be very gratefull for the advice.

  • TM - Dead Company
  • CH - Poor QC, lots of set-up problems
  • Saitek - Lots set-up problems, poor documentation, spike spike spike

Thanks to all that helped me!  I'm off to Wal-Mart to find a $20 Joystick that works.

Minotaur;

I went through the same crap as you are with your set up...I have the CH F16 fighter stick, Pro throttle and CH pedals.

I believe the following will solve your prob with the calibating in Windows..It worked for me ..

Ok, go to speed keys and scrool down to where it says new settings..click on it and name the configuration file "Calibrate"  click the OK button. Calibrate will now be in the Template Window...Now just click on the download button and download the template..dont program any keys just download the template as it is....now exit the speed keys and go to windows calibration.   When it askes you to press one of your buttons on your stick when going through the calibration. click the red one above the 4 way hat switch and wala the stinking stick should calibrate sucessfully..it worked for me....And dont forget to go back to the speed keys and download your AH template before going into the game..

Driver(s) on the packaged disc may be older than those at the download site.  So many dam drivers-so little time!

have installed three different USB joysticks, CHcombatstick, Logitech 3d extreme, and lastly a x35 & x36 USB throttle/jstick combo.. all went without a problem.. even worked well with USB CH rudders.... I tryed installing old prothrottle (dos) and couldn't get it to work.. gave up... if its not USB i don't have the patience to mess with it anymore... all the USB stuff has plug and played and map to AH without a problem once I figured the AH config out.... have 2 gamecards and joysticks and throttles ready to be recycled... I have been happy with my older version of MS FF with less views.  The newer ones, have a new mapping program (the profiler) that programs the stick and buttons to your liking.  Also, the rudder is in the handle, and I don't think some peddals work with it.
But if you don't need pedals, then the stick is a gem, IMO.  Programs easily-using the profiler-you don't have to program the game too.  If you have ESC set up on button A...then every time you hit a, the Map appears, or disappears.  The Precision Pro is the same stick, except the FF part.  You can always buy it, try it and return it!
