I am interested in discussing operating system choices.
I have been running Win98SE. It works great, but will not handle the 1.5 Gb of RAM I have, it took a bit of tweaking to get it to live with 1 Gig, and even then it isn't managing it well.
I would try Win2000, but my experience at work and school with Win2000 has been bad: major glitches even after Service Pack 2. It also doesn't seem to have solved some of its hardware and software compatibility problems.
WindowsXP seems even more risky in terms of hardware and software compatibility. On top of it, no Glide graphics drivers and only a DirectX wrapper for OpenGL.
From what I have read on the bulletin boards, it seems like Win2000 is the best compromise in that it is almost as compatible as Win98, has the speed and stability of NT, and can handle all of the RAM I have. But I am willing to bet that MS support for Win2000 is going to be nearly nil once XP is out. As it is, it has been out quite some time and still needs another service pack.
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I hate MS
