Tank Rotation

I wish the tanks could rotate without displacing horizontaly, like the real tanks. This may be a interesting feature to add, because the tanks would be more realistic. Also a compass like the one on the b17 would be nice to have on the turret of tanks.

If you mean a zero-radius turn around the tank's center axis, it wont happen. Very few, if any, WW2 tanks were capable of this. Having said that, some tanks could do a zero-radius turn around one track, by popping the clutch and locking the brake on one side and gunning the throttle in first gear.

I would imagine, though, that you would risk busting a track doing this, as your putting lateral loads on the track and roadwheels that could either snap the track or pull/push it off the wheels.

Tiger was capable of traversing aorund its yaw axis, one track forward, one reverse.
Usually there is no problem when doing that on solid soil, like grown grassland or dirtroad, if you dont pivot like a carousel. The real problem is not the strain on the tracks, but the dirt collecting up between it and the wheels, especially the drive sprocket.

Pivoting wasnt done a lot on german tanks due to their notoriously understrength built final gear (planetary gear inside the hub of the sprocket) except for emergencies. Locking one track was common though, it also reduces the risk of dropping a track due to dirt build-up, and imho it should be possible to do that in AH. Reduce the turning radius to half distance COG and track' outer side, et voilá!

Regards,

Matt

Its generally called pivot steer.  It does dramatically increase the likely hood of tossing the track especially on gravel.  Locking one track might help a little bit but once you stop and roll forward you still have a lot of debris scraped up on the tracks which will tend to toss one.
