One of the ealry VIII's with round tail?

and on he spitfireperformance website is a pic of an VIII in hi-alt colors.
I would assume this is all over PRU Blue, or could it be the Pink VIII?
If its blue - Codes were usually white
If its pink - Fin flash looks wrong

Hi Kev,

Let me look in my stuff when I get home.  I'm at work all day today.  I'd have to see a photo of it to buy into a clipped VIII in 43.

Yeah the fin flash looks backwards on the one side and I'm guessing the codes on the right side are in the wrong spots too.

Again, I'd like to see photos to back that one up.

As for the high alt VIII.  Same thing.  Guessing I have a photo of it in my stuff at home.  So it will be late tonite or tomorrow before I can post it.

OK Kev, here goes :)

First on the high alt Spit VIII.  It appears to be in the two tone high alt scheme of PRU blue undersurfaces and medium sea gray upper surfaces.  That explains the darker codes.  Another one from that squadron appears in the profiles below.  I would imagine it would be the same colors as you used on the Spit VII from 131 Squadron.

Note the bottom Spit VIII also.  It's a 145 squadron clipped Spit VIII.  The only references I can find to those clipped VIIIs with 145 are from the summer of 44 and they are in standard day camo, not the desert scheme.  I just can't buy that profile until I see a photo to go with it.  But that's just me :)

Now there is at least one PRU blue VIII that I found.  It's this one that ended up on Ops in India.

And of course you could go with a PRU blue IX with Prince Galitzine's high alt IX

And there are these to pick from as well.  I've seen the white recce IX in a few different places.  Wouldn't that one show up well in AH :)

White IX sounds good :) . (will need a unit to go with it though)

The last profiles (JL226, BS322) they look like PRU Blue underneath, and is that PRU mauve on top?

RE: Original one - apparently there is a pic,  'Spitfire Special' has a chapter entitled 'Italy 1943/ The Spitfire VIII' and on p.39 there's a crystal clear photo of JF503.
Unfortuneately I don't have it.

Thought I'd have a quick 'bash' at the white IX.

Will need some panel line softening and a few changes.
One problem - Spinner is mirrored so the diagonal lines look kinda weird when its spinning, apart from that it's do-able.

Why'd they have to go and mirror the spinner!?

Thanks guys.

Found out a little info on Pv115 -

Was an LF IX
11-9-44 Udim Camp Fordo (poss should be campoformido) Italy white overall color (poss make it 225 sqn).

Doesn't help with the squadron though :( .
