Increase Frame rate
« on: July 20, 2001, 11:28:00 AM »
I am currently running
P3 450 OC'd to 550
Vanta TNT2 16meg video card
96 mb pc133 ram
windows 98SE

Anyways my frame rate sucks. It is about 29-30 when im flying alone-no ground and anywhere below that depending on ground, other planes, smoke etc. It can go as low as 9-11 low over a base with smoke and fighters. So what would be the first step? Im getting 256 mb ram today, but will that help much? or is my bottleneck in the video card? If it is the video card..what do you recommend for a good card . I dont just want speed, i would like good video quality also. Thanks

xxbow  First go over the the hardware forum and look for a very recent article started by "flakbait".
Down load "process monitor" and right click and tetminate all programs running except explorer and rundll, when flying Aces High.

*Try the tips that "flakbait suggeted bout the fonts.

*Run in 1024 resolution or less
*Fly in 16 bit only !
*Lower resolution quality [shf-F2]
*Turn off Ground Clutter off [Ctrl-c]
*Make sure monitor refresh is at least 85Hz
* Make sure that your hard drive is defraged on a regular basis
* Keep you registry clean.

I use, RegClean V.4.1.a build 7364.1 ... by microsoft.  I dont think you can find the link anymore but I will be glad to send it to you in a zip form. Its the simplest and easiest to use that I have found.

You might want to try different drivers, althought I dont know which ones' to suggest.

Most important.> Save $$ for new graphic card. 16 megs is not going to cut it anymore. Thats The Weak Link

Ya can't go wrong with a Geforce 2 IMO.  Good price to, under $100 now.
