Tracer option in hangar

Geeze, I just mentioned this a week or two ago.I'd really like it to be a keystroke command, map a key to toggle on or off.Even better would be to be able to set what guns you'd like tracers on,ie MG's or just the 30 mm as opposed to tracers set "on" for all guns. Setting this up in hanger is good tho, maybe could be done with convergence setting mode:aok

What about setting tracers per plane like the way gun sights are chosen per plane.  Just on or off per model aircraft.  I don't think the "these 2 guns have tracers, this one doesn't" model would be feasible.

Why not?

AFAIK the pilots had some influence on how their belts would be stacked, how many tracers per other ammo etc.

Though pure luxury, I would even go so far to have the player decide how many rounds between tracers.

Of course this would make an overhaul of the damage calculation necessary...

So, I'd like to have just the on/off setting for each plane/GV option in hangar for now!  :aok

Indeed, many United States fighters had only one gun on each side running tracer.

In WWII I didn't know pilots could toggle ON & OFF tracers from the cockpit.
Then again I don't know "that" much about too many WWII A/C

Of course they couldn't.  That doesn't happen in game, and no one's asking for it.

Despite the fact I rarely use tracers anyway, it's an idea who's time is long over due.

Now about the 1 gun-2 gun tracer load bs... you can't have your cake and eat it too.  Either you show tracers, or you don't.

There was a WW2 squadron CO, whose name I unfortunately forget, that made it mandatory No Tracers Loaded in the groups fighters.  This did two things; 1. Gave the pilot a second chance to shoot an unsuspecting enemy if the first shots missed.  and 2. Made better gunners out of the squadron, because of the inherent inaccuracy that tracers present the shooter.

He also made sure every pilot spent time on the Skeet range when not flying, to improve deflection/lead gunnery.  Hey can we have SKEET RANGES in the game?

I don't see how you can call this "bravo sierra," seeing as how it was standard practice.  I don't know of many U.S. ships that used tracers on all guns.  Mostly just the inner two guns ran tracers every fourth or fifth round.

You miss the point.  Either you are using tracers, or you are not.  Doesn't matter how many guns you use them in, it's the fact that you are using them period.

Tracers alert the enemy that somebody is shooting at them...  Oh why explain?

Do this:  Go to training arena with a buddy.  One of you use tracers and the other not.  Go a few rounds and then compare notes on at what point you started evasive manuevers.  Was it when you saw tracers, or before?

If you know your convergence, then you shouldn't need tracers to tell you where your bullets are going to land.  Just takes practice.

At least, from seeing 30cal and 50cal MGs being fired in film footage, you often just see the glowing bullet streak itself, without anything behind it.

Mostly, different colors were used by certain nations for certain calibers.  I dimly recall the Germans used green for the 20mm and 30mm.  White for MG's.

Heard of Orange, Red, and even a bluish color on more, but can't verify that. :D
