Why we need icons on GVs...
Hrm...
Well, if you look down the street you can see the car parked 15 houses down (if you have a clear line of sight). You can probably tell the make, model, color, and what color the rims are on the wheels. At the SAME distance in AH it would be a blurry blob of 5 black pixels.
That is why we have icons. The human eye really is a wonderful thing, and no game, anywhere, ever, has come close to replicating what you see in the eye with simple on/off squares (pixels).
EDIT: Now, if they started making LCD monitors with pixels a fraction of the size they are now (and just a crap-load more pixles per screen!) then we'd get closer and closer, but we'd always be limited to tiny little squares gonig on and off. Like, say my 19" LCD, which tops out at 1280x1024, all of a sudden had 9x the resolution in the same dimensions. That would give me 3840x3072 (not a good 3:4 ratio, because 1280 isn't true 3:4) for the same size. That means I could run everything at much higher resolution and see much more detail, but I'd have problems with icon size, font size, and the size of things that use specific pixel measuremeants instead of ratios to display on screen.
EDIT2: 1280x1024 is about 1.3m pixels total. 3840x3072 is about 11.7m pixels. BIG difference. Now all I can do is hope and wish they advance in this area.
