Building new game rig
« on: February 11, 2007, 07:38:30 PM »
Fellow  gamers,

I'm going to have a new rig built finally!   I do not know what MOBO is compatible with a Intel Core 2 Duo.  I need help on this if anyone can?

Heres the parts I have picked out:

Video Card
XFX GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB PCIe x16

Monitor
Acer 19 inch 8ms LCD

RAM
2GB  not sure what is compatible with MOBO yet?   Need help here

Harddrive
250GB   Western

Soundcard
Creative SB X-Fi
xtreme gamer

Wireless Keyboad/Mouse  Logitech MX3000

CD Rom DVD  not sure what is needed.   But would like to copy/burn/store files and music.  Need help here too.

Anyone have any suggestions please feel free to chime in.   Wife wanted a new puter about 6 months ago and I made a thread about that but  we didn't get one then.    Now she is ready for new rig.   Thanks so much

before you buy that video card - you may want to check this thread  - I hear the 8800's have problems in AH...

I've put together a few machines but am far from being an expert so I will defer to the others on the rest of your hardware choices...

you may even want to check with these guys they'll ship out a barebones that's been tested and burned in for 48 hours - I've never bought from them but have heard some good things about them...

hey gunner.

I have 8800GTS and at the moment nvidia have really bad drivers for these two cards.  If you do go with that card i'll be very interested to see how you get on.  I hope they come out with a good version will most likely be some geeks somewhere write their own ones that are better than nvidias.

I think they are wasting too much time worrying about vista and DX10 to come up with anything worthwhile for XP.  Time will tell.
