Anyone know what's up with memphisbelle website?
« on: February 07, 2007, 09:31:38 AM »
Hey,

Anyone else able to get to memphisbelle website ? :

http://www.memphisbelle.com/

I (and a coworker) haven't been able to get to it for about  a month.

I was thinking of e-mailing the domain owner but figured someone here might know.

(FYI: this is the website for the real memphisbelle and it's restoration)

The Memphis Belle was moved to the US Air Force Museum.  The resources and money just wasn't there in Memphis.

The Air Force had always 'owned' the Belle, and it was decided the best chance for a proper restoration and display would be by the Air Force Museum.

So in time she'll be displayed alongside another 91st BG vet B17G, Shoo Shoo Baby.

Yes, The Memphis Belle is now in Dayton, OH at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Museum. The organization in Memphis had left the plane in pretty bad shape, so the Air Force re-claimed her to get her restored.

If it takes full power to taxi to the hanger, your gear is probably up.

Thanks, I knew that much, but we were still wondering what was up with the website.

I doubt that since the USAF "reclaimed her", the website will not be "on the front burner".

Best bet is to do a 'behind the scenes' tour. They were showing 'Belle on the recent ones. Check out National Museum of the Air Force site for details. The tours tend to fill up quickly and since they're on Fridays only, you prolly won't have an opportunity this time.
