Not quite sure, as the Osti is my weapon of choice when it comes to shooting planes down with a GV. The few times I have used the M16 the range didn't seem much more than a 1000 yds.

.50 cal effective range shooting upwards, can't be much more than 1000 but I think I remember taking some planes out from a little further than that, not much further though!

BUT. The convergence ona buff 50 cal is 500. I would estimate that number a little further, probablw 600-750. Which is about the effective killing range anyway.
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Keep it within 1000 and you can drop them.  Within 800 is even better, and so on...

Don't bother shooting out beyond 1k.

Against a slow target, maybe out to 1.5K.... that's the range at which the graphics update, IIRC, and why you see some planes do a little "warp" at about 1.5K distance.   A lot of Kentucky windage needed at that range.

I'm not sure there *is* a convergence on the M-16.

Some guns have no convergence, on some planes.

I'm guessing a mount like the M16 has no convergence.

I don't think there is a convergence range on M16. At least my own offline tests seem to indicate that.
