Hiya fradim,
I am naturally suspicious of updates especially auto-updaters. Every time there is a new release I get the whole version and uninstall the old one, defrag, and then reinstall fresh. It's a bit of a pain but I never have any problems unless they are bugs in the release

You just save your settings folder and sights and sounds if you are using custom ones of either and its pretty painless. Defrag is optional but it definitely helps and if done regularly takes very little time even on a large drive.
I would try this and see if that doesnt help.
Then think about reinstalling your vid drivers. But if you have no lockups or other system issues I doubt thats needed.
Good luck and let me know if you need more help.
