Besides some markings not lining up perfectly on the empanage.  Why do you guys think it's a poorly done skin?

I'm not a skinner, but would like to be one in the near future.  I'm looking for answers to help me learn from this.

Tail stripes are white when they should be black.  The OD paint on the wings top of fuselage and tail was added when they thought they might be sending the 51s to France.  So it was painted over the black which showed through I believe.

Can't put my finger on it Fencer, but something not clicking.  Thinking it might be that the ID stripes are a touch narrow and the tail ones are just a bit too far out towards the end of the wing.

Not complaining mind you as I can't make a skin to save my life :)

Guppy, your photo is causing confusing regarding the stripes on the empanage.

Sounds like the skin in the game has every right to be white stripes rather than black, although, it looks better with black stripes in the back.  :)

EDIT:  Guppy is right, you need to adjust the stripes on the stablizer and move them more inward.

Thought I said that I was not happy with the stripes.  I have since moved them redid the 'Kidd' and made the ones on the wings wider. :aok

Also I figured out why the fusalage metal was so dark.  A layer was set at full opacity, I have since fixed that as well.

guys i think saying the one in the game is not good enough is a bit over the top.

the standards now of the skins by everyone has gone up so high that earlier attempts  show out more.

ok so the skin is not 100% correct but saying it is no good is very harsh.

The skin in game was created what appears to be 2 days from 8/26/05 to 8/28/05.  I posted in the skin's thread back in January 2006 asking if he was ever going to finish it and got no reply.  I finally PMed him and he stated it was not done but he was going to finish it eventually so I backed off.

You can follow the process here @ this thread.

Back in May he posted the following;

Quote
Finally done and submitted...

Not happy with it but well well... making a mixed metal and paint skin is virtually impossible as the material applies to everything...

Tex

I personnally have never said it was not good enough as that is not my call that is HTC's.

What I will say is that he did not put alot of effort into detailing it correctly and getting all the touches which finish a skin out completed.  So after listening to some friends complain about it and being told that I needed to do it, I asked what the rules were on duplicating skins.

So, I am doing it.  If HTC doesn't want to replace the once in game because they think it is better than this one, well again that is their call.  However I am going to finish it once work settles down (next week) and it will be done as correctly to the actual plane as possible from existing references.

Cheers,
Fencer

I'm not saying it's unfit for AH use either, but I'm a stickler for details. I won't submit if stripes on the left/right don't line up. Same for stripes top/bottom. I put a lot of effort into making my skins look as good as I can from almost any angle.

My take on doing the same skin is: As long as you have a different take on how it's done, go for it. Meaning we don't want 2 identical skins, but if yours is better HTC might replace the original. If the original is better HTC might accept it and have them both, or they might just reject it saying "We're full, already have this, thanks". I say take the chance and wait for HTC to decide the fate of the skin.

I say submit better versions of a skin (I even say that if you improve mine!) and keep submitting really good ones even if a list is full. Nothing that says they might not decide to replace an older, less well done skin with a totally new and great looking one.
