« on: April 03, 2000, 05:23:00 PM »
I own a Athlon 500, MSI 6167MB, 128Megs of ram and Creative Geforce Pro 32Mb DDR.
Installed all latest drivers.
System isn't overclocked

The problem is that everytime i run AH online after 30 mins my game crashes and i'am back at the desktop =(
AH is closed and don't have to restart the system.
All other games runs perfectly

What is the problem here ?

Have you tried the reference drivers? Thats what I am running with my GeForce, and the only time I got dumps to desktop was when I had my system overclocked

Have you tried the latest version of DirectX?

Is it just a clean dump to desktop or a host connection lost?

Have you downloaded and tried AGP Wiz which is a special Creative Labs only product for their video cards.  It permits you to check AGP 1x, 2x or 4x.  It also allows you to enable sidebanding or disable it.  I think you should check it out.

Also, just for laughs, go to BIOS and set the AGP Aperture (if you can) for a very low value.  ie: 4 megs.

I'm curious what you find out with any or all of these things.  I believe the Athlon is your key.

BTW, I use a CL GeForce 256 (32megs) DDR without any crashing problem at all, however, I'm using an Intel 440BX-2V motherboard and an Intel 600Mhz with main memory of 256 megs.  I overclock the GeForce to its maximum and on a recommendation of HiTech I turned OFF all mipmapping.

Tried all what you’re suggesting but nothing helped.
So I have decided to return the card to the reseller and get me another card instead, thinking of buying the Asus 6800.

Seems that the CL Geforce isn’t that compatible with the Athlon as Creative wants us to believe.

For now I have reinstalled my old Gfx card 3Dfx 2000 and can play.

Thanks for all the help much appreciated.

You might check for updated AGP drivers for your motherboard.  (I know VIA MVP3 chipsets WILL NOT work with TNT2 or GeForce cards without a driver update.)  I would also set your AGP size to the minimum value in the bios (if that setting is available).  Also, check and see if any newer bios for your MB is available, and if so, if there was any mention of AGP fixes.

Athlon systems have been very bad for setting up AGP video cards.  (Imagine that ... AGP was created by Intel.   )

I just looked up your motherboard.  It uses the irongate chipset from AMD.  This chipset has been BAAAAD for GeForce cards.  Tom's Hardware guide said it would only work with GeForce at AGP 1x!  (Yep, that's right, 1x.)  The newest bios available is 1.5, but I didn't check to see what it fixed.

There is also an issue with sidebanding and fast-writes, but I don't know what the symptoms it causes are.

Unfortunately, without updating drivers and bios for your MB (if an update is available), any GeForce will probably give you trouble.

Good Luck to you.

Thankfully, the newer motherboards with the Apollo KX133 chipsets for Athlon processors seem to have fixed this problem.
