FSO order utilitiy

FSO CO/XO/frame CiC's  as you may know, one of the goals of the CM team is to encapsulate the frame orders within the AHEVENTS site.  What I am asking from those who do the orders is what they would like to see.  Listed below is just some items I'd like to see if I can implement for all of you:

1. Password protected with the password being set each Tour.
2. The ability to upload files (for those who wish to do the orders in MS Word/PDF or whatever).
3.  Simple HTML editor with image uploader if there are those who would prefer that.
4. Passwords would expire at the end of Frame 3 so that all participants could read the side orders and potentially the objectives as defined by the CM Team.
5. Orders kept around for a while.

I would envision at least two pages.  First page/utility would allow the Frame CiC to create/edit orders.  Second page would be the view page for all squads.

Again, I do solicit your input as this event and the special events in general are only as good as the input provided by the player base.

Good Idea's

All good ideas:

As long as the passwords work and dont cause more delays I am all for it.

My only problem with the FSO Mail Utility has been its unreliable nature and file size allowable for sending.  During the last 2 frames that I planned I had to send out the warning orders and operations orders the old way from my own e-mail account as I just couldnt make the FSO mail utility work.

In the case of the 325th we like to present several graphics and a PDF and Word order.  Sometimes we do them in Power Point and then convert them so the file size is large.  I often duel format them to allow everyone to see them.  Several graphics because several pictures are worth thousands of words.  Also when possible I'll send out Recon photos of the targets for the strike packages.  The mail utility only allows for one attachment.  Plus the file size is to small for large or detailed graphics.  So you end up having to send several e-mails to get the info out.  Or have to save or graphics as JPG's which can distort badly when the maps are large and the ICONS close together.  If you send out several e-mails then you wonder if the guys got them all.

I like the concept of the mail utility and it much better than what we had to use a year ago.  I would just like to see it improved in size of files and amount of attachments.

I recommend a file limit of 5Mb from 1Mb and up to 10 attachments from 1.

5 megs would kill those on dial up.  I know I am not the only one on dial up. How about a limit of 3 megs?

My two cents. :)

I might be missing something here but the way I understand forHim's post is that the frame CiC would create/edit his orders on the site then enable them to be viewed by squads registered to his side. This would negate the need for large emails and allow participants on dial up to download only the information that would pertain to them. If this is correct then the only email that might be created is from the frame CiC to the squads, informing them of the password and directing them to read the page where the orders are posted.

Falcon:

I'm not understanding now:rolleyes:   A frame CIC has still got to make an operations order to issue out to the side hes in charge of.  You can't just issue what was given to you from the CM's.

That order is going to take up file size.  Or are we talking about two different issues?

Daddog:

I'm good with 3Mb, beggers can't be chooser's.  However the utility itself has to be changed to accept more attachments than just one.  This would greatly help as well.

O and by the way its time to get with the 90's and get rid of the dial up buddy:D   Everytime I look at the comcast commerical with the "slowski's" I will now think of you my rich American friend!

Heck, they just got poles up to carry the power and the fancy new phone lines out by Dad's house.....

Im surprised Dad knew Broadband wasn't a group of banjo playin' old fat ladies.

I'll put my 2 bucks in for the "Buy daddog some fiber optic cable" fund...

The way I understood this was, the Frame CiC would go to the site read his objectives (password protected by Admin CM), then create his orders and  post them on the site. He would then give the password and location of the orders to his squad COs. They in turn would go to the site and using the password read the orders.

Daddog you might want to talk to your town and see if they would look into Broadband over the Powerlines (BOP). I heard about it (CNN radio) within the last month or so and it's been in the testing stages for a few months now, but I've forgotten were. It's designed for rural areas and someone else here may know more.
Easy in-game again.

I have heard of that easyscor.......

Im not sure what the final verdict from the FCC was though.

It is possible. I have installed power line Ethernet adapters in homes before. They work better than a long shot WiFi but still not as good as direct wired cable.
