I had a cyst about 2 times the size of my wisdom toof under the right side.  it was nasty.  One loser surgeon told me i might have permanent nerve damage on lower jaw cause it was near the nerve line.  luckily he was full of it and we got an opinion from another more sane surgeon.

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted at the same time during Boot Camp. The Dentist wanted to hypnotize me instead of using novacane. After a brief "discussion" he decided to use novacane after all.

Diablo - slanted wisdom eh? :D

Laser - what happened?
I'm curious how they'll operate on mine.. I don't know anything about oral surgery except for a vague memory of a surgical documentary where the procedure included dislocating the jaw to clear the way.

mandingo - Was it something like this?  http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/Cyst_-_wisdom_tooth.jpg

I don't mind pain or temporary disabilities, but I will rather be out under anaesthesy when someone's hacking away on my parts.
The only thing I ever dreaded in all the time I've dissected and otherwise played with anatomy, is cracking open by hand or cutting jaw articulation with plyers.

Just reading up on wikipedia, it looks like they're of the easier sort to extract, especially the lower one.
It bothered me so much in the last few months, that I ended up just ignoring it and chewing the gum off the top of it, and pressed it back down till I could chew normally again.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted when I was in High School. Not pleasant but I was out for the procedure. The bottoms had erupted like the ones in the x-ray, the uppers had to be dug out.

If you have any choice at all, have them put you under totally.
